The extension of the Logan River Trail west of 10th west. This next phase will start at the Logan
River bridge and continue west and southwest to 1800 south. Construction has started although
wetland mitigation issues will be addressed and constructed first.
There continues to be discussion on a trail that will follow the canal corridor (the canal that
parallels Canyon Road) from 600 east /boulevard to 1st Dam. This trail will be built as soon as
plans are finished and funding is secured.
The BST trail tunnel at Canyon Entrance Park will soon split and the easterly trail will connect
to Ray Hugie Hydro Park and then continue east through the park and past the hydro power plant
and parallel Logan River until it connects with the Logan River Trail that is on Forest Service
property.
7 to 10 days of consistent temperatures (15-20 degrees below freezing) and consistent conditions.
Sufficient snowfall of at least 8-10 inches is needed before construction can begin.
Once there is sufficient snow it is packed to establish frost for ice sheet support (3 nights
using trucks to pack snow).
Below freezing temperatures are needed for 7 to 10 days during the ice building process of
spraying an even amount of water on
packed snow base.
Crews are able to build approximately a 1/3 inch of ice every 8 hours.
In a 4 day period, under optimal conditions, a 4-inch base of ice can be achieved.
